Sheila Sanning Shea, RN, MSN, ANP, CEN, has demonstrated clinical excellence as an emergency nurse practitioner (ENP) and serves as a role model for other NPs every day in her position in the Department of Emergency at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif. — a Level II Trauma Center. Sheila has made a significant contribution to the improvement of care for individuals, families and this vulnerable community, utilizing current research to enhance quality of care. She has a positive effect on clients as well as colleagues. She is the co-owner of EmergeED, an education and consulting company.
In addition to Sheila’s national NP presentations and publications on clinical NP topics, mostly recently on “Rapid Team Triage: One Hospital’s Approach to Patient-Centered Team Triage“, she is an author and reviewer for the “Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal,” a peer-reviewed journal designed to meet the needs of advanced practice nurses including NPs, and a past contributing editor to the “Journal of Emergency Nursing.”
Sheila has demonstrated cutting-edge practice and leadership through her participation in several clinical research projects that directly influence NP practice. Her most recent efforts have focused on the evolving sophistication of the medical decision making process by ENPs. Sheila teaches NPs across the state as the co-owner of EmergeED and has lectured at several NP venues including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) annual meeting and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) annual meeting.
