CEP America Announces New Anesthesia Division as Group Anesthesia Services, Inc. Votes to Join Partnership

CEP America, one of the nation’s largest democratic physician partnerships, has announced that it will begin offering anesthesia services starting December 1 when the physicians of Los Gatos-based Group Anesthesia Services, Inc. (GAS) join the Partnership.
CEP America partners with hospitals to staff and manage departments across the Acute Care Continuum, including urgent, emergency, inpatient, and post-acute care settings. The Partnership model, where all physicians are owners and Partners, has improved throughput efficiencies and enhanced transitions of care at hospitals across patient populations and geographic regions. The addition of anesthesia means that CEP America physicians will be able to extend seamless integration of patient care to perioperative settings.
“As the healthcare environment evolves, CEP America continues to anticipate the needs of our hospital clients,” said Wesley A. Curry, MD, CEP America’s Chief Executive Officer. “By adding this new practice line we will be better positioned to deliver a fully-integrated care experience, ensuring patients receive coordinated care across hospital and outpatient settings.”
GAS is the largest private practice of board-certified anesthesiologists in the South Bay and Silicon Valley. They currently provide anesthesia services at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose as well as outpatient surgery centers throughout the region. The 36 physicians of GAS have voted to join the CEP America Partnership on December 1, 2014.
"As we searched for a partner, it was clear that CEP America’s mission and values align with our own,” said Shawn Lucas, MD, President of GAS. “Partnering with CEP America provides a way we can adapt to the rapidly changing healthcare environment, while protecting our clinical autonomy, practice independence, and ownership.”
CEP America is owned by its physicians in an equitable manner; there are no employed physicians, independent contractors, or super-owners within CEP America. The Partnership is governed by its physicians through a democratically elected Board of Directors. Anesthesiologists joining CEP America will become Partners in the organization, with a defined partnership track that includes ownership, democratic participation, and profit distribution.
GAS employees will also be joining CEP America and its practice management subsidiary, MedAmerica; which will also begin providing anesthesia practice management services on December 1.
