Meeting the Staffing Needs at Saint Agnes Hospital from Day One

High physician turnover in the emergency department (ED) at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, a member of Ascension Health, slowly degraded the patient experience. Adding to the problem was an ongoing struggle to recruit quality candidates. To resolve both staffing and patient satisfaction issues, Administrators turned to CEP America to manage and staff their ED.
With a contract start date of July 1, CEP recruiters began their provider search in March. They faced a tall order: hire eight new full-time physicians and four new full-time PA/NPs in a region where CEP America did not yet have a presence.

The team began by attending local medical conferences in the region and raising awareness around CEP America and the new opportunity at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. Simultaneously, the lead recruiter began cold calling residents and providers in the region. CEP America’s unique practice model and record of success resonated so well that every position was filled by May – nearly two months before the contract start date.

Since then, Saint Agnes Hospital has been fully staffed with engaged CEP America providers and has seen operational performance in the ED increase, with providers continuing to seek out job opportunities at the site – despite having no full-time openings. Ascension Health was so impressed by CEP America’s success that they tapped the organization to manage the EDs at nearby Providence Hospital in Washington, DC, and three of its acute care hospitals in Wichita, Kansas.
