About Arrowhead Regional Medical Center

The CEP America Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) Fellowship was founded in 2009 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, a 465-bed, state-of-the-art teaching facility based in Colton, California. The San Bernardino County-owned hospital cares for a large urban indigent population with an emergency department (ED) annual census greater than 140,000 patients. This Level II trauma center also features a burn center. Fellows in the CEP America EMPA Fellowship program at Arrowhead receive extensive training in trauma and resuscitation of critically ill patients.

ARMC has been a designated trauma center since 1985. The ED is a wholly independent hospital department with a well-developed emergency medical services system and fully operating paramedic base station. The ED has 50 beds, organized into sections correlating with patient acuity.

Patients are seen for urgent care problems and are screened for higher levels of care in the Rapid Medical Evaluation (RME)® and Treatment Area, which is a walk-in setting. Higher acuity patients are triaged to one of five pods.
