Richard Newell, MD, FACEP

Dr. Newell is an elected member of the CEP America Board of Directors and has been a CEP America Partner since 2007. He practices Emergency Medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, CA. In 2008, Dr. Newell began serving his department as an Assistant Medical Director and assumed the role of Chair and Medical Director in 2010. Since 2008, he has been CEP America’s CMS Program Director and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians Quality and Performance Committee. Dr. Newell was recognized for his contributions to the CEP America Partnership with the Distinguished Service Award in 2013.
Dr. Newell obtained his Masters of Public Health in Healthcare Management from Harvard University and completed his medical education at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he was selected as a Junior Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) member. As a second year medical student he co-founded a free health clinic which to this day continues to serve the impoverished communities of Buffalo’s Eastside. Dr. Newell was recognized for his work in this area with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency training at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center. Thereafter, Dr. Newell received advanced education and training in healthcare management as an Administrative Fellow with the physician partnership CEP America.
